About Us
🇬🇧 Rifugio Fata is a private, ODV-accredited animal welfare organization based in Lamezia Terme, Calabria, devoted to the rescue, care, and rehoming of stary, abused and abandoned animals. Currently, we provide shelter for around 120 dogs, though this number often changes due to rescues, adoptions, and the need to care for injured or ill animals until they are ready for adoption.
For over 20 years, we have successfully placed more than a thousand animals in loving, responsible homes across Europe. In addition to rehoming, we are deeply committed to raising awareness within our communities, starting from an early age. We organize events and outreach programs to educate and inspire compassion for animals, fostering a sense of responsibility.
Our shelter includes 42 kennels, each accommodating 2-3 dogs, as well as specialized spaces for training, care, and recovery. We have a dedicated room for sick dogs, a kennel for puppies, a “senior dog” house, a room for mother dogs with newborns, an on-site veterinary clinic, and a cozy wooden cabin to help dogs acclimate to a homelike environment. Additionally, our shelter is nestled within a beautiful, spacious green area surrounded by olive groves, where our dogs can walk and run freely.
Rifugio Fata operates solely on private donations, without any government or local funding. All contributions go directly towards the shelter and the well-being of our four-legged guests. We work closely with partner shelters and foster homes in Northern Italy, and many of our volunteers are trained in dog behavior, offering support and guidance to those interested in adopting.
