Tato è stato trovato da adulto vicino a una grande scatola sul ciglio della strada che portava al rifugio, dove probabilmente era stato rinchiuso. Era il 2015, più o meno. Quando è arrivato, era assolutamente terrorizzato. Non voleva essere toccato, e l’unico modo per farlo entrare nel rifugio è stato attirarlo lentamente con dei bocconcini.
Ma già il giorno dopo tutto è cambiato. Tato ci ha accolto con piccoli salti di gioia e ha iniziato a chiedere coccole. Appena sentiva arrivare un’auto, la riconosceva subito e ci salutava con il suo caratteristico ululato melodico—quasi come se stesse cantando.
Tato è un bassotto meticcio, dolce fino al midollo, anche se non è esattamente un cane “bello” nel senso classico. Forse è per questo che nessuno si è mai innamorato davvero di lui. Ma per noi è un tesoro: divertente, pieno di personalità e sempre pronto a farti sorridere.
Nel corso degli anni ha sviluppato un’otite cronica, probabilmente a causa della lunga permanenza nel rifugio. Ha bisogno di un paio di pulizie profonde dal veterinario ogni anno per tenerla sotto controllo. Nonostante tutto, Tato rimane un’anima gioiosa e affettuosa, in attesa che qualcuno lo veda per il meraviglioso cane che è davvero.

Tato was found as an adult near a large box on the side of the road leading to the shelter, where it’s likely he had been locked inside. It was around 2015. When he first arrived, he was absolutely terrified. He didn’t want to be touched, and the only way we could coax him into the shelter was by slowly leading him in with treats.
But the very next day, everything changed. Tato greeted us with excited little hops and eagerly asked for cuddles. As soon as he heard a car approaching, he would recognize it and greet us with his unique, melodic howl—it was almost like singing.
Tato is a mixed-breed dachshund, sweet to his very core, though not conventionally handsome. Maybe that’s why no one has ever truly fallen for him. But to us, he’s a treasure—funny, full of personality, and always ready to make you smile.
Over the years, he has developed chronic otitis, likely from his long stay at the shelter. He needs a couple of deep cleanings at the vet each year to keep it under control. Despite everything, Tato remains a joyful, loving soul, patiently waiting for someone to see him for the wonderful dog he truly is.
